How can AI evolve on its own? Our new research direction explores systems that can create an improved version of themselves, which can then create another, continuing the cycle.
Recursive self-improvement
The idea is a repeating loop: an AI system creates a better version of itself, and that new version takes on the same task. We call this recursive self-improvement. Understanding how that loop could work is the focus of our Evolutionary AI research.
A foundation for OBIKI and Arcus
We intend this research to become a foundation for OBIKI and Arcus. Exploring how models could contribute to creating their own next version is a direction we want both series to focus on.
Where it stands
This is a very early research direction. We are beginning to explore the idea and will share more as the work develops.
